How to do consignment on Clover

Clover rings up consigned items like anything else, but it doesn’t know who owns them. Here’s how stores make it work with Clover alone, and where an app takes over.

Consignment with Clover alone

The usual setup, before a store adds an app. It works, and it’s what most of the month-end work comes from.

  1. 1

Give each consignor a category or code

Make a Clover category for each consignor, or start each item’s name with their code, like “JV-102 Oak chair”.

  2. 2

    Add their items to Clover

Enter each item with its price and stock, in their category or with their code.

  3. 3

    Ring up sales as usual

Nothing changes at the register. Clover records the sale like any other.

  4. 4

Export the sales at month end

Run Clover’s sales report by category or item for the month and export it.

  5. 5

Work out and pay each share

In a spreadsheet, total each consignor’s sales, take out your commission, discounts, refunds and rent, then pay them and send each one their numbers.

Where it gets hard

Steps 4 and 5 grow with every consignor. This is what each job looks like with Clover alone, and with Consignia added to Clover.

Consignment on Clover questions

Something else? Ask us.

Does Clover have a consignment feature?

Clover rings up consigned items like any other, but it doesn’t record who owns an item or work out a consignor’s share. Stores track that themselves, or add an app from the Clover App Market.

Can I use Clover categories for consignors?

Yes, and many stores start that way. It works as long as each item is in exactly one consignor’s category. The category report shows what each consignor’s items sold for, but not their share after your commission, discounts and refunds.

Is a consignor code in the item name enough?

It keeps items findable, like “JV-102 Oak chair”. You still need a spreadsheet to total each code’s sales, take out your cut and track what you’ve paid.

Does Consignia change how I ring up sales?

No. Staff keep using Clover as they do now, on any Clover device. Consignia reads each order and splits it by vendor.

When is Clover alone enough?

With a handful of consignors on one split, no booth rent and few refunds, categories and a monthly spreadsheet can work. It gets harder with every consignor you add.
